Precautions, Disclimer
and Policies
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE ENROLLING THE KINTSUGI CLASS.
Precautions
-
We use genuine Urushi, Japanese natural lacquer, and pure gold to teach the authentic kintsugi method.
-
Direct contact with urushi on your skin may cause a rash in some cases. (For more details, please refer to the section “Why can urushi cause a rash?” below.) We provide gloves and instructions for safely handling the lacquer.
-
Please note that if the lacquer gets on your clothes, it cannot be removed, even with washing.
“Why can Urushi cause a rash ?”
Urushi (Japanese natural lacquer) is derived from a plant related to poison ivy. In its liquid form, Urushi can cause allergic reactions, including a rash or dermatitis, when it comes into direct contact with the skin. Fully hardened Urushi does not cause rashes. The rash typically appears 24 hours after contact and may take up to two weeks to heal. Symptoms include itching and blistering. The severity and duration of the rash depend on individual immunity levels. Avoid scratching the rash to prevent scarring. Because Urushi is not commonly used in the United States, we recommend avoiding the use of creams or medications to treat the rash unless the affected area worsens significantly. Using medications without proper guidance may lead to further irritation or exacerbate the rash.
Disclimer
